A perfect opportunity for young people to spend their holidays in a truly unique and historic part of Somerset! Our camp is located in Bath, a city so beautiful and special that it has been designated a UNESCO World heritage site, famous for the Roman Baths dating back to the year 43 AD. Bath is still the only place in the UK where you can bathe in naturally hot spa water. Our camp offers the perfect mix of a quiet campus with lots of sports facilities, parkland to relax and the vicinity of a city providing lots of cultural attractions and good shopping. This combined with a variety of activities, makes for the perfect way for young people to improve their language skills and to make friends with students from all over the world. Join us for a great summer camp in England that will create memories your child will never forget.
The prestigious „University of Bath“ is located on the top of a hill overlooking the historic city and just a short walk away from the center of town. The location is perfect for those students who want to take part in fun activities on campus but would also like the chance to explore a town nearby. The campus is surrounded by large grassy parkland including a small lake and offers plenty of space for activities. Popular meeting point at camp is the so-called “Parade” with shops, cafés, and a lounge to meet with fellow students during breaks or just to relax after a long eventful day.
We live together with our teamers in small, adjacent houses with 8 to 12 single rooms per house, spread over several floors. Each house has its own lounge with a small kitchen and bathrooms on each floor.
All students are accommodated in the center of the campus only a short walk away from all common areas such as the dining and lecture halls as well as the sports facilities. We are based at “Derhill”, a complex of connected multi-story houses consisting of 10 to 15 comfortable single bedrooms each. There are shared toilets and shower rooms in each house plus a private common room and kitchenette on ground level, for the exclusive use of our students.
We offer three meals a day - upon previous notice we ca also arrange vegetarian, gluten or lactose-free options, as well as meals without pork. Breakfast includes toast, Danish pastries, sweet spreads and a wide selection of yoghurt, fruit and cereals. Drinks include juices, cocoa and tea. For lunch and dinner we serve hot meals accompanied by a salad bar and sweets. In between meals you can fill up your water bottles at the waterdispensers and as a snack outside meal times we also offer fresh fruit.
The ability to communicate in different languages is a priceless gift and enables young people to make friends with other students from all across the globe. Why not also developing the language skills during the holidays? All our Language courses are solely carried out by native speakers in internationally mixed classes with no more than 12 students. At the beginning of the stay the individual level of each participant will be assessed by our experienced teachers to ensure that everybody is placed in the right class, according to their language abilities. Our courses comprise 20 units of 45 minutes per week but no worries – our lessons are not like being at school. We focus on fun and interactive education. The use of modern teaching methods in and outside the classroom, incorporating topics that are suitable for the different age groups and levels guarantees a positive outcome and a pleasant classroom experience. We offer two different English courses:
By attending our interactive Classic Courses students will improve their language skills in a fun way. Our Classic Courses are designed to match the holidays of our young participants. Nevertheless, they are intense and efficient. Our teachers put a strong focus on oral practice and make sure that the students build up their confidence and improve communication skills in a playful way and without even noticing. They will breathe new vocabulary and internalize the right pronunciation by using the language and not by memorizing boring work sheets. Our campers are always around our English speaking staff, who encourage all students to put their language skills in practice inside and outside the classroom. Attending camp will give them a boost of self-confidence and fresh motivation for their English lessons at school.
Apart from our Classic Courses we also offer two-week TOEFL® Courses. The Test of English as a Foreign Language is the most widely respected English language test in the world. At the end of the course all participants will take an exam to achieve the TOEFL® certificate. The great advantage of TOEFL® is that no one can fail the test. It just measures the student’s ability to use and understand English as it’s read, written, heard and spoken according to the CEFR – the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1 to C1). Attending this special course is definitely worth it as all candidates will receive a certificate that not only proves their level of English but is also accepted by schools worldwide in case your customers consider to spend a school year abroad.
Students who attend the TOEFL® Course will benefit from 10 additional units on top of their 40 hours of classic English tuition. During those additional lessons, we focus on grammar exercises and practice important parts of the exam such as reading and listening comprehension and we will also use sample tests to get all candidates well prepared for the exam.
Camp Adventure is an authorized test center for TOEFL® and TOEIC®.
Our varied sports and leisure program makes the perfect balance to the language tuition. Numerous sports and outdoor activities as well as creative sessions guarantee lots of fun in the afternoons and evenings.
The „University of Bath“ offers sports facilities at its best including an Olympic-size swimming pool, used by the British Swim Team as well as a big sports hall and several tennis and beach volleyball courts. But the camp is not just all about sports. We offer activities for everyone’s taste for example survival skills and team building or fun activities such as mini olympics, creative, arts & crafts, dance or theatre sessions. Not to forget about the evening program including camp fires, BBQs, talent shows, discos and sports tournaments to keep all students well entertained. Good to know: We provide a fully English environment at camp, also during free time to ensure that our students have plenty of opportunities to practice their English outside the classroom.
Once a week we take all campers on a full day excursion to show them interesting places such as historic Oxford, worldwide known for its famous University. London is definitely a must-see. This trip is a highlight of everybody’s stay in England. We will visit all major sights of the capital city. Our tour commences at the Tower of London with top views of the famous Tower Bridge. Following this short stop, we continue our tour by boat on the river Thames, all the way down to the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. A short walk away we will catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister’s home in Downing Street and continue our walk along the Horse Guards up to Buckingham Palace. For those shopping fans, we take a quick side trip to the cool stores in Carnaby Street or Covent Garden.
At the weekends we also explore the city of Bath. Students will see the old Pump Room and the natural thermal spa or show off their rowing skills during a boat trip on the river Avon. Afterwards we will go for a stroll around town for some shopping. The vibrant city of Bath offers a great mix of historic features and modern trends due to the high population of students. A great day out!
